The Centro Médico Teknon Digestive Endoscopy Unit has for the first time in Spain performed stomach reductions using endoscopy without the need for any incision to be made. In the first four procedures undertaken on 28 February and 1 March, the patients were discharged within 12 hours of their operation without any complications.

The surgical procedure, known as POSE (Primary Obesity Surgery Endoluminal), employs cutting-edge tools and techniques to reduce the stomach's capacity via the mouth without the need to open up any point of entry. The endoscopic procedure involves making folds in the stomach which are then sutured to reduce its size. This then limits the stomach's capacity meaning that the patient will feel perfectly replete having eaten just a small quantity of food.
